Medarex and Danish investors formed Genmab, to develop and commercialize fully human antibodies for inflammatory diseases. 3i PLC formed Mettis Group to manufacture hip and knee prostheses. A grant from the National Human Genomic Research Institute helped start Visual Genomics Inc., a designer of bioinformatics software products utilizing XML-based Bioinformatics Sequence Mark-Up language. Ligand Pharmaceuticals spun-out X-Ceptor Therapeutics to identify drug candidates derived from orphan nuclear receptors.
