Executive Summary
Dedicated TB case-finding interventions, as opposed to "passive" assessments of symptomatic cases, can improve the speed of diagnosis, but not the rate of detection. So suggest the findings of research conducted for the World Health Organization in southern Ethiopia, comparing TB screening strategies in rural community settings. Treatment outcomes from the two strategies were comparable, concluded the study, which appears in the WHO's February 2006 bulletin.
