Phthalates exposure in children

Executive Summary

American Academy of Pediatrics recommends further study into the ways children are exposed to diethylhexyl phthalate and diisononyl phthalate in a technical report published in the June issue of Pediatrics. Additionally, AAP urges study into the effects of phthalates on pregnant and lactating women, premature and full-term infants and young children to better determine safe levels of exposure. DEHP is a plasticizer used in toys, medical devices and cosmetics. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel concluded phthalates are safe as used in cosmetics during a meeting last November (1"The Rose Sheet" Nov. 25, 2002, p. 3)...
