Executive Summary
Italian researchers conducted 750 clinical trials in 2007, roughly equal to the 769 trials conducted in the country a year earlier, the Italian medicines agency AIFAreports in an annual survey of pharmaceutical research. A slight trend to more Phase I and IV trials has emerged, and to fewer bioequivalence and bioavailability studies, but most of the clinical trials registered in Italy are in Phase II (38%) or Phase III (45%).
