Talking Back to Premier

Premier Inc., the group purchasing organization, met with several hundred of its laboratory members to solicit their opinion about Premier services and contracts. The result, while not a surpirse to Premier executives, was a lot of blunt talk. Premier is planning to review the way it does laboratory contracting in light of the rapid pace of industry and technology change.

Premier Inc. has made some controversial moves in diagnostics since it was formed from a merger of three group purchasing organizations (GPOs) in 1996. So its laboratory executives were prepared for what they got when they called a meeting in June to solicit feedback from laboratory members and discuss the future of laboratory contracting. And what they got was plenty of blunt talk.
