New research suggests, though does not prove, that having overweight friends makes one more likely to put on a few extra pounds. And having sporty friends makes one more likely to be active. And so on. The influence of social networks on pharmaceutical industry behavior, and success, is probably even less certain. But that hasn’t slowed large companies’ increasingly monolithic push to invade and colonize what it sees as the global bastions of innovation.
