In late December 2012, Medtronic Minimally Invasive Therapies announced a definitive agreement to acquire stealthy Fremont, CA-based drug-coated balloon (DCB) company CV Ingenuity Corp., for an undisclosed amount. [See Deal] Covidien joins large cardiovascular device players Medtronic PLC, which gained a drug-coated balloon when it acquired Invatec SPA in 2010 [See Deal] and CR Bard Inc., which has the lead in the US market as a result of its acquisition last year of Lutonix Inc. [See Deal] as well as a large number of DCB companies based in Europe.
