Trust Us: Is Pharma’s COVID-19 Vaccine Pledge Convincing?

Missteps on convalescent plasma and the revoked authorization of hydroxychloroquine – paired with US president Trump’s cheerleading for the rapid approval of a COVID-19 vaccine – has eroded public trust in the US FDA. Americans view the pharmaceutical industry more positively than the federal government, according to an annual Gallup poll on perceptions of US businesses and industry sectors, conducted between 30 July and 12 August 2020. But not by much: the pharmaceutical industry received the second lowest score among all industries included in the poll, with the federal government coming in dead last.
