Both the US and EU are gradually warming up to medical marijuana, but clunky and inadequate regulation threatens to curtail the growth of a burgeoning industry.

In November 2022, the US midterm elections saw the cannabis sector score two significant wins, as Maryland and Missouri legalized the recreational use of the compound among adults. This move means nearly half of the US population now live in states where recreational marijuana use is legal in some shape or form.
