In 2016, China launched the China Brain Project (CBP) with the goal of making an ambitious contribution to neuroscience. It started with a scale of CNY5bn ($746m) over five years, but with the possibility of additional investment. It is expected to be promoted on a par with the US BRAIN Initiative or the EU's Human Brain Project. The CBP focuses on three areas:
